All-on-4 dental implants are a prosthodontics procedure that uses four implants to support a fixed bridge and replace a full arch of teeth. The implants are strategically placed in the upper and lower dental arches, with the back implants positioned at a 45-degree angle to help lock them together. This technique can be used to rehabilitate patients who are edentulous, have decayed or broken teeth, or have gum disease.

All-on-6 dental implants are a dental treatment that uses six implants to support a full set of teeth. They are a variation of the All-on-4 technique, but use more implants to provide greater strength and stability for the jawbone. All-on-6 implants are designed to act as an anchor for replacement teeth, allowing patients to chew and speak more naturally. They can also help preserve jawbone density, which can prevent sagging facial features that can occur with tooth loss.

Zygomatic implants are extra-length dental implants that are anchored to your cheekbone. Your dentist might recommend that you require zygomatic implants if your bone tissue/mass won’t provide a strong enough foundation for traditional dental implants. This is often quite common amongst older patients who have worn removable dentures for a long period of time and might have lost some jawbone mass but still want a dental implant fitting.

Navigated implants involve utilising computer-navigated surgery to insert the implant into the jaw bone with the highest levels of accuracy. Using advanced 3D imaging, the dentist can visualise the bone and position the dental implant in the right position, at the optimal angle and depth. Peri-implantitis treatment is relatively self-explanatory. The infection has to be removed as soon as possible to avoid damage to the dental implant and bone loss. In rare cases a simple course of antibiotics treatment and a non-surgical periodontal cleaning could be enough to remove the infection and protect the dental implants. However, if the infection has spread to the bone and/or already damaged the bone-dental implant connection then it might be necessary to surgically clean the dental implant with a peri-implant surgery. Peri-implantitis treatment is undertaken by a dentist.

Bone grafting (bone augmentation) is the transfer of bone tissue from another location within the body (autogenous bone), the insertion of a natural replacement material (allogenic bone) or even the use of a synthetic tissue (artificial, also called xenogenic, bone) to an oral site where it is needed after bone volume loss. It is also possible to blend a patient’s bone with a natural or artificial bone resource to restore the original contour of the jawbone and so prepare for a dental implant.

A bridge is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap – these two or more anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth – and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are called pontics and can be made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants and effectively bridge a tooth gap.

Apicectomy is a way of saving unhealthy teeth in cases where root canal re-treatment is unsuccessful. If you have undergone root canal, and potentially additional root canal re-treatment and yet inflammation has returned to the affected tooth you may be concerned about what happens next.
